Women in bikinis have been featured in ads trying to sell you…well, just about anything and everything under the sun including bikinis, but I’m pretty sure this is the first time a naked lady has been featured in an ad trying to sell you a bikini top. I’m not quite sure what the equation is, but somehow the math works?!
I could be mistaken, because it’s not like I’ve looked over every single American Apparel ad there ever was since the beginning of time, but I’m fairly certain this is the first time American Apparel goes full frontal. As a marketing campaign, I’m not really sure if it works and frankly I don’t really care. I haven’t shopped at an American Apparel since I-don’t-give-a-fuck.
As for the naked lady side of things, I’ve got nothing against naked ladies, but for some reason this one bugs me. Nothing bad to say about the model, Marissa, except that she looks mighty young. I mean, really really really young. People have been throwing that accusation at AA ads for years and personally it never bothered me before. Maybe, it’s because back in the day I was the same age as the models.
One thing is for sure, the older I get the more disturbed I am by the barely legal category of… just about everything. It’s strange, because when I think about my own sexuality or my own sexual history I’m not at all bothered by the thought of a teen dating an older guy or experimenting with whatever or whoever the fuck they want, but from my perspective as a grumpy ol’ lady I’m starting to think eighteen looks awfully young. What say you?
