I’m dying. Or, rather, I might as well be dying. I have the worse toothache known to man. THE WORST. I’ve had a long standing dentist appointment for the end of March to repair a cavity. At first, it didn’t bother me at all, but since this weekend the tooth in question has obviously been taken over by a face burrowing alien that is trying to take over my brain and destroying half of my face in the process.
I have top-notch mouth hygiene etiquette: I brush minimum twice daily with an electric toothbrush for two minutes, I have a separate toothbrush to clean my tongue, I floss religiously, I gargle, and I visit the dentist every 8 months or so. Clearly, it’s a face burrowing alien and not good ol’ fashion tooth decay we’re talking about here. And the only thing I’ve found to distract me from the alien slowly making its way into my brain is the photography of Derek Woods.
Derek gives me woody. He has a really keen eye for gritty vintage glamor. The kind that exudes an intoxicating and sultry sexuality. The shadows, the soft edges, and the tinted lighting of his photographs all serve to give the images a sense of mystery and play.
The kind of play you want to take with you into dimly lit rooms, dark alleys, and church confessionals. It’s all about the feel of grit from brick walls against your back, hiked up skirts, and legs spread so wide you’re going to feel that stretch and ache in your muscles the next day.
It’s so good, I forgot all about my toothache. All the way to the very end anyhow.
