Dov Charney and Terry Richardson were separated at birth. They’re pervy brothers in arms. They are soulmates. Then again, maybe they hate each other’s guts. I’m leaning towards the latter. Still, they’re cut from the same “bad touch” uncle branch.
The only difference being that Charney takes advantage of young barely legal employees, while Richardson takes advantage of falling celeb snatch. Plus, Charney actually has a store where he like tries to like sell stuff.
Oh, I remember when American Apparel first appeared on the radar of college kids everywhere. It was awesome. Finally, a t-shirt that was soft and thin and didn’t have a constricting neckline. AMAZING!
I still like soft, thin t-shirts with non-constricting necklines, but like all college students who eventually graduate and leave the art of poster decoration behind, so does AA fall into the past where it belongs.
The ads though, they’re a different thing altogether. Forget the shitass clothes and google the hell out of AA ads, it’s hipster porn. Sure, we all hate hipsters, but naked hipster chicks is different thing, amirite?
So, what is Dov up to these days besides showing his dick to every cute employee he’s got (what am I saying, there’s a policy against hiring ugos at AA so all of his employees have seen his dick)? He’s still pretending to sell clothes so he can take pictures of young ladies.
His latest crop of photographs (see first three pics), however, have stirred up some controversy and have been banned in the UK. I don’t really see why, since I’ve seen AA ads with much more nudity (see rest of pics), but it seems that the fact that “Trudy” appears to not be wearing any underwear and that the outline of another girl’s vagina can be seen in the other pics is pretty offensive to some people.
Here’s what the British group the Advertising Standards Authority had to say on the matter:
“We considered there was a voyeuristic quality to the images, which served to heighten the impression that the women were vulnerable and in sexually provocative poses. For the reasons given, we considered the ads were likely to cause serious offense to visitors to American Apparel’s website.”
And, BAM, that’s how an AA ad gets banned. Personally, I don’t really care about the nudity, of the sexually provocative pose, or even the voyeuristic aspect (I like all those things)… in fact, I would rather have someone actually investigate Dov Charney and check out all these claims of harassment and sexual misconduct and abuse instead of simply banning his ads, ’cause clearly that accomplishes absolutely nothing.
